“Dance is the hidden language of the soul.” — Martha Graham
It’s been a long time since I was out dancing. I can remember times when I would take a nap after work so I could be fresh to leave my apartment at 11 p.m. when the night began. It was so much fun! Those were the days…
I love to dance. There are times I dance when I’m alone, but the only chance I get to do it with other people nowadays is when I’m at a wedding or a party, and then somehow, the music and my mood aren’t the same. I try to get my kids (ages 13 and 10) to dance with me, but they just act like I’ve lost my mind.
My friend Chantal Pierrat of Emerging Women recently wrote a beautiful piece about the five reasons she dances:
- For self-exploration and expression
- To stay grounded
- To feel feminine
- For connection
- For ecstasy
Reading it rewired me—I was transported back to that time where fun, laughter, and expression came so easily. Turn up the music! Let’s all dance!
