Reflect on what you are grateful for this month
Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.
–Eckhart Tolle
When life gets stressful, it’s easy to forget how lucky we are and lose sight of all the good in our lives – myself included. While I know that I’m blessed to be healthy, have a beautiful family and a job I love, there are many days when I wake up and immediately start thinking about everything on my to-do list. My mind starts racing, the stress starts building and my head hasn’t even left the pillow.
Most of us have a lot to be thankful for, yet we continue to take gratitude for granted (pun intended). This is why, during the month of November, like to reflect on what I’m grateful for. Every morning I list something different; sometimes it’s as simple as the sun shining through the window or my dogs jumping on the bed to greet me.
This month, I challenge all of you to do the same.
Keep a gratitude journal. For the next 30 days, wake up and ask yourself: “What am I grateful for?” Every day write down something new. Reflect on what you have verses what you don’t have. Where you are in your life versus where you’re not.
Every day, review the list and at the end of each week, read them all. This will help you reframe your perspective and rewire your brain to start thinking in a more positive way.
“Gratitude helps people refocus on what they have instead of what they lack,” according to Dr Michael Craig Miller of Harvard Medical School. “By acknowledging the goodness in their lives, expressing gratitude often helps people recognize that the source of that goodness lies at least partially outside themselves. This can connect them to something larger—other people, nature, or a higher power.”
Do you ever notice that when you choose to see abundance, more good naturally starts coming into your life? The same is true for those who choose to see what’s lacking; they are never satisfied and always want more. Cultivating a grateful mindset will help you live in the moment and stay focused on what truly matters.
