Today is World Laughter Day! Dr. Madan Kataria, the medical doctor who founded Laughter Yoga, created World Laughter Day in 1998. It’s a way to celebrate the positive, ripple effects that joy and laughter can have on our world.
Celebrated first in Mumbai, India, where Dr. Kataria is from, World Laughter Day takes place on the first Sunday in May. Laughter is a universal feeling, and Dr. Kataria—also known as the “Guru of Giggling”—emphasizes that laughter just might have the power to connect us in friendship, brotherhood, and kinship.
How will you celebrate World Laughter Day? Start with this adorable video called “Buzz and the Dandelion”.
Then think of other ways to spread happiness by watching a funny movie with your family, taking a Laughter Yoga class, or just looking at a picture of the Guru of Giggling. He looks so full of life and laughter that just gazing at his photo is likely to bring a smile to your face and lighten your mood.
