Matthieu Ricard, best-selling author of Happiness and new book Altruism, addresses the topic of being known as “the happiest man in the world” and is unsure of how the title became his since it was given to him by worldwide newspapers and not scientists. He describes the title as a piece of tape he can’t seem to get off his fingers, but admits it’s better than being known as “the unhappiest person in the world.” Thus, he feels the need to use the title for good purpose.
