Did you know approximately 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12%) will develop breast cancer at some point during her lifetime? An estimated 231,840 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed this year, along with 60,290 non-invasive cases.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the annual international campaign to heighten awareness and raise money for research.
I’m sensitive to this topic because women in my family and close friends have been diagnosed with this disease. What I’ve found gives them the most strength is having support from others fighting the same battle. To support someone is more than just “thinking pink.” It’s about donating your time and taking action.
The good news is that breast cancer is curable—especially if it is detected in the early stages. All the more reason why mammograms are a must.
To show my support, I just donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation to help a woman without insurance coverage to get a mammogram. I hope you will consider finding a way to support the cause too!
